How Musub Jumpstarted a Bright Career in IT Through the GED Tech Apprenticeship™ Program
Passionate about IT from the beginning
In 2021, Musub Omair completed his bachelor’s degree in computer science in Pakistan. He then worked as a software engineer for one year, only to realize that it wasn’t the right role for him. Even though he studied computer science, and he was passionate about IT, Pakistan’s technology sector offered a limited selection of roles.
When he moved to the United States in 2022, Musub searched for entry-level roles in IT. The job market was tough after COVID-19, and he kept hitting obstacles because he didn’t have a US-based qualification. To pay bills and put some money aside, Musub worked in retail. Along the way, he decided to get his GED®.
On the way to an IT career with his GED
Soon after receiving his GED credential, he heard about the GED Tech Apprenticeship™ program — a partnership between GED Testing Service and WithYouWithMe to provide GED learners with free globally accredited training. Participants become ready to step into entry-level tech roles in high demand areas, including software development, cybersecurity, data analytics, and more.
Musub was excited to sign up! After completing the assessments, he enrolled in the Service Delivery training pathway. Troubleshooting software was already part of his experience, as well as hardware and networking issues. He was used to building, repairing, and upgrading computers. Service Delivery was a great fit for Musub’s skills and interests.
Even though he already knew a lot about computer science, Musub was eager to learn valuable new skills during his courses and training. Musub found out about an Apprentice Service Delivery opening at a digital transformation company. After several interviews and showing his skills through an impressive Capstone project, Musub got the job.
Gaining new skills and valuable work experience
During his journey, Musub shared: “I felt that the training was very well-structured and detailed. Despite having a technical background, I found myself learning new things in every course I came across. It was a great learning experience, and I highly recommend it to other jobseekers.”
With his career getting off to a great start in IT in the United States, Musub is looking forward to succeeding in his role so can share his knowledge and be a mentor for others looking to enter the industry.
Musub reflected on how learning never stops: “It’s amazing how tech only continues to grow and expand with time. When you’re working in tech, you need to be able to adapt to change and that’s something that really excites me. It’s a never-ending journey of knowledge.”
