Once again, the GED Conference was a huge success – thanks to your inspiration and dedication to building brighter futures through education. It was amazing to see everyone in New York City last month.
It was an honor to have Dr. Rolundus R. Rice – thought leader, orator, professor and university administrator – open the event with his keynote speech. His own journey from the GED credential to a Ph.D. degree has inspired thousands of students. As a university leader, Dr. Rice was appointed Dean of Humanities and Fine Arts at Talladega College in Talladega, Alabama at the age of 33. He is one of the youngest academic deans at an accredited four-year institution in the United States.
GED Administrator of the Year
Each year GED Testing Service recognizes GED graduates and state GED Administrators for outstanding achievement at the annual conference. The GED Administrator of the Year award recognizes administrators that have helped support GED test takers through contributions related to expanded testing opportunities, increased testing volume, innovative outreach and marketing initiatives, and innovative training and monitoring practices.
This year, Sue Grosdidier, Associate Director for High School Equivalency at the Kansas Board of Regents was presented with the GED Administrator of the Year award. The award recognizes a GED administrator that has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the advancement of the GED program and GED learners over the past year.
Sue is an enthusiastic and dedicated educator and leader who has worked in education for 36 years. Most of her educational experience was as a High School Transitional Advisor working with high needs students on personal issues, scheduling, career exploration and much more. She has also worked in the college sector where she held positions in administration and served as Adjunct Faculty.
GED Graduates of the Year
At this year’s conference, three GED graduates from New York and two GED graduates from Connecticut were presented with the 2023 GED Graduate of the Year award. This award recognizes students who recently earned their GED credentials, displayed exceptional dedication during the preparation and testing process, and demonstrate outstanding stewardship in their community.
The graduates were nominated by adult educators, GED administrators and other stakeholders in the adult education community through an open call for nominations from GED Testing Service.

Here are the proud winners in Connecticut: Jessica Nicholas of New Haven and Raeann Gilbert of Bloomfield.
