If you are 18 years or older you may sit for the test with no restriction.

If you are 17 years old, you must complete and submit a Parental/Guardian Consent form and send it to help@GED.com and include in the email: 

  • Your first and last name as listed on your testing account 
  • Your full mailing address (including city, state, and zip code) as listed on your testing account. 
  • Your telephone number as listed on your testing account. 
  • Your email address as listed on your testing account. 
  • Your GED ID number if available. 
  • Your date of birth as listed on your testing account 

Once the form is reviewed and approved by us, you will receive a notification in your GED.com account letting you know that you can schedule your test. 

Due to government rules, no one 16 years of age or younger is allowed to test.

If you are 17 years old, you will not be able to book a test until you have completed an Age Waiver. To complete the age waiver, login to your ged.com account and click on the Age Alert red banner. It will take you to the Age Waiver. Follow the completion and submission instructions within your Age Alert.

Upon arrival at the test center, you are required to present one or more valid forms of identification. The identification to verify your identity must include your:

  • Full Name
  • Date of Birth
  • Handwritten Signature
  • Photograph

If you do not present proper identification that meets these requirements, you will be turned away on the day of testing and will lose your test payments.

No, you are not required to prepare for the GED® test in a program or classroom, however we find that students are more successful on the test when they have classes through a GED® preparation program, whether online or face-to-face. 

Yes, you are required to pass the GED Ready practice test with a minimum score of 145 before being able to schedule the GED test.
